Early detection of vascular access dysfunction and timely intervention may enhance patient outcomes and help ensure the delivery of prescribed hemodialysis therapy. The 2008K², in conjunction with Access Flow and Twister®, facilitates monthly surveillance and trending of access function. Declines in access performance may be evaluated in a timely fashion and facilitate elective outpatient access intervention.

Access recirculation, detected by the Blood Temperature Monitor, will compromise effective clearance. Especially with the increased use of fistulas, recirculation should be monitored frequently. A fistula with a low access flow may still have a long patency, but requires lower blood flow rates to avoid recirculation.
